Photo Contest Details
The Contest is administered by the Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA) (the “Contest Administrators”).
Start and End Dates
The Contest submission period shall commence at 9:00 a.m., Eastern Time, on June 11, 2019 and will end at 11:59 p.m., Eastern Time, on August 8, 2019.
Voting will take place online from August 9, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. until August 23, 2019 at 11:59 p.m.
The winners will be announced on August 26,2019 at 6:00 p.m.
At its sole discretion, the contest administrators may choose to extend the entry and voting periods.
The Contest will be open to residents of Ontario who have reached the age of majority and who consent to registering for the Power for the People campaign. Winners must be able to provide proof of residency and answer a skill testing question before receiving a prize.
Individuals are limited to one photo submission for two categories of their choice. Individuals may not enter more than two categories.
All photographs entered in the Contest must be original content that has not been utilized for another contest.
All photographic entries must be submitted electronically as .jpg or substantially similar files through an online portal on the webpage. The Contest Administrators may require a high-resolution file for any photograph selected as a winning entry.
A caption for the photo must be provided. Captions must be—at minimum—200 words, not exceeding 250 words. Captions must be written in either English or French. The Contest’s administrators reserve the right to translate French captions into English to ensure the entry is accessible to non-French speakers—and vis versa.
The contest categories will be as follows:
- Solar on farms (agricultural use)
- Solar in the city (urban areas)
- Solar at work (solar workers)
- Creative solar (displaying creative ways of utilizing solar)
All winners will be selected by the Contest Administrators on the basis of the photograph and its caption, taking into consideration the number of votes accumulated.
Voters will be asked to consider the following criteria when voting:
- Visual impact
- Caption content
- Caption relevancy
The photos with the most and second-most votes per category will be proclaimed the Grand Prize, and 2nd Place, respectively.
The winners will be announced through CanSIA’s social media channels and through an email blast sent to voters and participants on August 26, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.
All prizes will be delivered to the winners by mail. All decisions are final.
Prizes are not transferable; no prize substitutions or equivalents are permitted, except by the Contest Administrators at their sole discretion.
Prizes per category:
- $400 for Grand Prize per category
- $150 for 2nd Place per category
The Contest Administrators, in their sole discretion, may disqualify any individual who attempts to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest by tampering with any website mechanism, or who violates the Rules and Regulations.
Voting will take place online from August 9, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. until August 23, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. In order to vote, individuals must be Ontario residents who are registered as members of the Power for the People campaign.
By entering the Contest, each entrant, irrevocably:
(a) authorizes the Contest Administrator to use the submission, including without limitation the entrant’s name, city and province/territory of residence, photograph, image, picture, portrait, likeness, and statements (together, “Material”) in connection with its business, including without limitation for this Contest or for general advertising and promotional purposes, in any and all forms of media now owned or hereafter invented, without further notice, review, approval, consent or compensation;
(b) grants Contest Administrator a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free non-exclusive license to publish, use, reproduce, copy, display, distribute, edit or modify any entrant’s Material in connection with this Contest, other marketing and advertising purposes, or for any other reason or purpose, and each entrant waives any and all moral rights he/she may have in any Material submitted. Each entrant agrees to complete and sign all documents necessary to confirm the rights granted under these official rules; and
(c) consents to the use of the Material in advertisements for the Contest Administrator, and to the posting of his or her Material in print and online in Contest Administrator’ and the Contest Administrator’ affiliates’ and related companies’ publications, websites and in social media without any further notice, review, approval, consent or compensation. In addition, each entrant acknowledges and agrees that publishing Material in print and posting Material online brings that Material within public view, and the Contest Administrator will not be held liable for any copying, reproducing, re-posting, or unlawful use of any published or posted Material, or any other injury, damage or loss to any entrant or any other person that may result. As a condition of being declared a winner and prior to being awarded the prize, the potential winner will be required to show valid photo ID and to sign a declaration of eligibility and release form (i) releasing the Contest Administrator from any and all liability in connection with the Contest and/or the prize; (ii) confirming compliance with these Contest rules; (iii) consenting to the use of the entrant’s first name and last initial and Material, in any and all forms of media, without further compensation, in any publicity carried out by the Contest Administrator and/or their advertising and promotional agencies; and (iv) assigning any intellectual property rights, including copyright, in the Material to the Contest Administrator and waiving the entrant’s moral rights in the Material. The potential winner may also be required to sign confirmation and release forms from any prize supplier, their related parties and/or third-party contractors.
Indemnity: By participating in this Contest, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless the Contest Administrator and Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP and their respective affiliates and/or related companies and licensees and each of their officers, directors, shareholders, partners, employees, advisors, assignees, agents, licensees, representatives, advertising, media buyers and promotional agencies as well as (the “Released Parties”) from any and all damages, injuries, claims, suits, actions, causes of action, costs, expenses, liabilities or losses of any kind (including but not limited to lawyers’ fees) arising out of or relating to your participation in the Contest, your receipt, use or misuse of any prize; your violation of any term of these Contest rules, your violation of any third party right, including without limitation any copyright, property, or privacy right; or any claim that your submission caused damage to a third party.
The Contest Administrator may, in its sole discretion, prohibit any person from entering the Contest whom it believes to be abusing the rules. Such abuse includes but is not limited to entering false information and entering more than once.
Odds of winning depend on the number and caliber of eligible entries received. This Contest is governed by the laws of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable therein and is void where prohibited by law. The Contest Administrator reserves the right to cancel or modify the Contest or the Contest Rules at any time without notice. All prizes must be accepted as awarded, are non-transferable and are not convertible to cash. The Contest Administrator reserves the right to substitute any prize or portion of the prize with a prize of equal or greater value. All prizes are awarded as-is and no warranties or guarantees are implied or expressed, beyond the standard manufacturer’s warranty. The Contest Administrator is not liable for any lost, late, misdirected or stolen entries or inability to process entries, or any errors, injury, damage or negligence that may arise in connection with this Contest, including technical failures or failure on any website or software, viruses, website disruptions, malfunctions or down-time, human error, personal injury or property damage incurred by any Contest entrant. The Contest Administrator is not responsible for any errors or omissions in printing or advertising this Contest. Use of any automated system including robotic or form filling software to enter or participate in this Contest is prohibited and will result in disqualification of all entries by anyone using such assistance. If a dispute arises regarding who submitted an online entry, the entry will be deemed to be submitted by the authorized account holder of the email address provided at time of entry. Authorized account holder is the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address.
